It crossed my mind that you might consider that a possibility…

Bob Wright, CEO of NBC

Just as it’s refreshing when you hear a musician or someone in the record industry who gets mp3s, It’s wonderful to hear a television exec who doesn’t have a knee jerk reaction to Tivo and other digital video recorders. Bob Wright, CEO of NBC has a Tivo, uses it, and doesn’t think it’s going to destroy network television.

  1. Yeah…

The movie studios predicted the end of theaters when the video tape arrived. Amazon.com predicted the end of the bookshop. So far, none of that has happened. But I don’t remember anyone predicting the end of vinyl when the CD arrived. Maybe the future is, in fact, unknowable. (Imagine that!)

I think TIVO and it’s ilk will simply be VCR replacements. The networks and advertisers need not worry. Make good content — including commercials — and we’ll all watch.

  2. Isn’t that a little biased, since NBC is a partner and shareholder?
