Here is a really interesting article about a computer scientist in India who has been doing work in minimally invasive education. Essentially he took some computers, embedded them in a concrete wall, and watched street kids who had never seen a computer before learn how to paint, surf the web, play games and download music.

His remarks on the effectiveness of the internet as a complimentary teaching tool are really on target. Maybe this type of learning on it’s own isn’t terribly useful for these kids, but coupling this ability to learn and use the internet with a teacher will dramatically increase the success of teachers.
