I think I’m becoming increasing
I think I’m becoming increasing discontented with music. Sure, there are some pretty good new bands out there (The Shins and Jack Johnson) and there are plenty of older bands I like putting out good, sometimes even great albums (Tanya Donelly’s new disc is good, and I’m into Bob Mould’s new record). But thinking about records that really threw me for a loop, changed the way I think about music, there haven’t been any in a while. Sugar’s Copper Blue, Sebadoh’s Bakesale, Miles Davis’s Kind of Blue, Sonic Youth’s Goo all did that for me, for totally different reasons.
I hope it’s just that I haven’t heard anything revolutionary lately, and not that I’ve become jaded. I do hold out hope that someday in the near future I’m going to put a disc into my cd player that won’t leave for six months, that will make me remember what’s so special about a truly fabulous record.
