The last 5 days have been exhausting. My parents flew in on wednesday, and so Emily and I have been playing hosts. My aunt and uncle flew in from San Francisco for the weekend, and we took a trip to the Getty. It’s an absolutely incredible building. Something like 14,000 tons of travertine marble was imported from Italy to build it, and the building and grounds cost $1 billion. The white balance is all off (i had the camera set up to shoot indoors), but this panoramic shot of the Getty gives you a pretty good idea of what the building looks like. Compared to the building itself, the collection seemed second rate. There were some beautiful Rembrandts, and the room of Impressionists was kind of staggering (a bunch of Monet, Cezanne, and Van Gogh’s Irises). The rest of the collection consisted of mediocre paintings by famous painters, or paintings by mediocre painters.
